Rebecca Run for SMA

• Rebecca Run was the vision of Run Director Louise Smith when her niece Rebecca was diagnosed with SMA at the age of two.
• Every year more than 120 volunteers from across Ontario come together and work diligently on the Rebecca Run, as it is essential that we all help to raise awareness and research dollars.
• Since 2002 we have raised over $3.4 million through the Rebecca Run for SMA.
• The 2026 Rebecca Run for SMA will once again raise money for Cure SMA Canada and the cure/treatment research they support.
• The event features a 5K Run/Walk and a Kids' Fun Run
• A virtual run is also available for our community members that are unable to join us in person.

Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)

• SMA is the #1 genetic KILLER of children under the age 2.
• SMA destroys the nerves that control voluntary movement like crawling, walking, head and neck control and even swallowing.
• 1 in 6000 babies is born with SMA.
• 50% of the children diagnosed before the age 2, will DIE before their 2nd birthday.

• Cure SMA Canada is a national charity made up of volunteers.
• Most people involved with the charity have a loved one afflicted with SMA.
• Cure SMA Canada has been able to designate over 96% of money raised directly to research.
